Artist Spotlight: Felguk @ Control Fridays at Avalon 7/30

First time at Control Fridays at Avalon in Hollywood. It was a pretty cool event, to be honest. Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but I had to see Felguk. They are very comparable to Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner. Hard, progressive house with a bunch of glitchy bass and samples that pretty much forces you to move.

I knew the second I heard these guys, that they were going to make it in the US. They're originally from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and recently made their LA debut at EDC. Unfortunately, I had to miss that performance. I got stuck at the main stage getting down with Swedish House Mafia and being disappointed as hell for Deadmau5's set. If you were there, you know what I'm talking about.

I got some videos from Felguk's set and some songs to download. They were really fun to watch, because you can tell they felt very welcome. I can tell you now that this won't be the last you hear of them. They're going to be playing at my friend's event Enchanted Music Festival in November. Check it out!

EVENT INFO: Wolfgang Gartner is making his way back to LA after an amazing EDC performance to play at Control Fridays at Avalon. If you wanna get tickets go here. He's playing with Harvard Bass who I mentioned in the last post and saw at Audiotistic. Both of them are quality performers, and this isn't an event to miss for $20.

Concert Recall: Audiotistic 2010

A-fucking-Trak

I promised a lot of people a more entertaining post this time around. Less talk..more videos. Let this post be a praise to Flip Cams. Audiotistic was a solid night to be alive.

Audiotistic Through C+A+D's Eyes:

Kill the Noise 9:45-10:45
Awesome start to the night...nothing to rant and rave (lol) about, but I really enjoyed it.

Harvard Bass 10:45-11:15
This guy is coming up really fast. I saw him open for MSTRKRFT in Hollywood, and things have been looking good for him ever since. Good vibes.

Gonzales - I Am Europe (Djedjotronic remix) Delightful Choice!

Bassnectar 11:35-12:35
The C+A+D MVDJ of the night award winner, without a doubt. This is HUGE, considering he was competing with A-Trak and friends. This guy gets better every time I see him. Straight up entertainer. Had the crowd going from beginning to end. See for yourself:

Bassnectar - Here We Go (Original Mix)
Duck Sauce - Barbra Streissand (LOVE THY BROTHER REMIX x BASSNECTAR) (this one's fun)

KiD CUDi 12:40-1:35
I've been hearing a lot of shit talking on Cudi's performance, much to my surprise. I don't know if people were just rolling too hard to appreciate it or what. I thought he did great, as far as hip hop shows go. Although, he had huge shoes to fill after Bassnectar's performance. The crowd was more unruly than usual which also put a damper on the whole things. I'm still glad I got to see him though.

A-Trak 1:40-2:45
Fuckin' A-Trak. I really feel like this doesn't even deserve a review. He brought his A-game on Saturday. While everyone was seeing Rusko (who I'm upset I missed..but the Cudi tent was too nuts), I made my way into the more roomy Sound Arcade to see A-Trak destroying the stage. He is the most talented DJ in the world.

Daft Punk - Robot Rock (Soulwax Remix)

Treasure Fingers 2:45-4
Treasure Fingers couldn't have been a better end to the night. I'm loving that this whole disco/house genre is picking up. Treasure Fingers is a master at funkifying any song. Get down to this.

Miike Snow - Animal (Treasure Fingers Remix)
N.A.S.A. - Gifted (Treasure Fingers Remix) Delightful Choice!

I hope you all had as much fun reading this as I had making it. Next up: YOLO List: Week 3

YOLO List: Week 2

Good morning! Had to churn this one out post Audiotistic, because I don't know if I'm going to have time to do it later. Have a final Monday...every minute of studying I didn't do and that I'll never get back was 100% worth it. Audiotistic was everything and more. I'll have videos and my favorites from the night on the next post. (Don't worry, by the way, I'll handle this test. It's all about balance!)

So I didn't get much of a response from the last one, but I'm going to assume that you all loved it, because I do! I'm planning on keeping them at two songs at most per artist, so I can show you as many as possible as the weeks go by. Look into the artists you like, and feel free to let me know if you need more guidance. I tried to keep it random as fuck again, so expect to hear something new. These have been really fun to make so far. Keep me posted on who stood out or what genre you want more of, and I'll keep that in mind for future YOLO Lists.

ALSO!
As you're listening to these lists, if you feel as though I might enjoy a band you like, please tell me in the comments or email me! I have an ever-expanding desire for new music, and if I put it up here, you'll get your credit for sure.

Delightful Mention!

Miike Snow - Animal (Punks Jump Up Remix)
Miike Snow is definitely one of the better bands out there right now. All around, too..they were absolutely beautiful at Coachella. This is one of those songs that all the remixes are way better, but the original is still amazing. This one imparticular has a grip of remixes, but the Punks Jump Up mix will always stand out to me.

Artist: The Colour
The Colour...it feels like I've been listening to them forever. They used to throw flyers around my highschool, and I went to see them because the flyer looked cool. They were local, got really big, made an amazing album called "Between Earth & Sky", traveled Europe, then broke up. Band conflicts are a damn shame..Regardless, this shit has been "go to" for me for all my music life. Todays Rolling Stones? ..or yesterdays I guess

Artist: Starfucker
Don't let the name fool you!

Artist: Discovery
This is a side project of Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles. Considering I love Vampire Weekend and think Ra Ra Riot's aiite, I thought I'd give it a shot. It's got this weird R&B thing going on, that's kinda funny, considering it's these two white guys. Somehow they pull it off though..

Your week just got it's own playlist!

Time To Get Funky: Duck Sauce Style

I'm sure if we've been at the same party recently, I would have found my way to the music source and played a track or two, or maybe even three, from these guys. Duck Sauce is comprised of A-Trak, Kanye's former DJ and house superstar Armand Van Helden. You may recognize A-Trak's name from his remix of "Heads Will Roll" that was slamming all DJ sets hard in the past year. And likewise Armand's name from his colab with Dizzee Rascal on the hit single "Bonkers." You know 'em. You love 'em.

So Duck Sauce is coming up really fast, and I thought I'd help them out with this post. They need and deserve the recognition. It's a housy mix of electronic and disco that doesn't fail to get people dancing. I feel as though whether you like electronic music or not, it's really easy to get down with these guys. Most people that I've showed them to from totally different musical background seem to really enjoy it. I got all of their songs that i could find, plus one of my favorite remixes out there. The weird part is, I've only seen remixes of Barbra Streissand and have yet to hear the original. Anyhow, enjoy the Duck Sauce list!

YOLO List: Week 1

Happy Sunday everyone! Ok so sorry I haven't had a chance to post anything up here in the past few weeks. Hopefully this post will make up for it. I'm going to start putting together a playlist weekly of a handful of different genres from bands I really like. I'm going to keep it to around 20 songs each time so you can put it on a CD to enjoy on your summer drives. If you don't know already, YOLO is short hand for You Only Live Once. If i could live my life by any four letters, it'd be these. Life isn't too short, but too dear to be confined to any one genre of music, or to any one way of life for that matter. There is some good in every genre, even country. Open your minds and your ears and give it a shot. You never know..

Wolfgang Gartner vants to pahty!

I've been making a lot of promises to get on with this post, and so the time has come. Wolfgang Gartner is coming up in a big way. I don't know about you but with a weird ass name like that I assumed he was another European DJ making his name in the U.S. Wrong. Fool's from Austin, Texas. How he stumbled on that name is beyond me.

I had heard his name here and there and got a few tracks from my buddy Maxim, but he really hit home with me when I saw him at coachella. He's got the same glitchy, kinda dark, hard bass-y, progressive house thing going on that people who appreciate deadmau5 and Felguk would instantly love. The guy was my second favorite at EDC (followed closely behind Duck sauce). Not a moment of mediocrity in his entire set.

SO! I got a high quality live recording of his set from the Winter Music Conference in Miami that's pretty comparable to the EDC set. I haven't been able to stop listening to it. Jam out to these tracks.

A Cross the Music Spectrum!

Electronic music is coming up in a big way, which is great. DJs today are putting together some of the nastiest, funkiest, hardest shit I've ever heard (shout out to Wolfgang Gartner). It's time to look back at the influences of our generation in this genre. The godfathers of what we know as electronic today are none other than a combination of Daft Punk and Justice...in my opinion. Honarable mention: Soulwax, Boys Noize, sebastiAn and the Ed Banger crew. I know neither of these duos are in need of an introduction.

For tonight, I thought I'd make a throwback post to the album that really hit electronic home for me: Cross by Justice. This album made the transition into loving electronic music that much easier. It's flawless from beginning to end. With classics like "D.A.N.C.E.," "DVNO," and "TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY" anyone can get down, whether you like electronic or not. They introduced a harder, more bass oriented aspect to electronic, and you can tell they had a lot of fun with it (I know they did on tour). Anyway, download and listen to this album. Become familiar with it because it get's a lot of attention in DJ sets, rightfully so. This is one of those albums that's never a bad idea to shuffle through.

9.5/10

A little somethin' Extra:
We are your friends - Justice vs. Simian

This is the song that started it all for Justice. Straight up anthem-of-a-revolution type shit.
